To the always hurried

Hey you,

I know you have a lot of to-do’s on a daily basis. You said it can’t be helped. You needed to work extra hours because you have bills to pay, family to support…name it. “Adulting” comes with so much responsibility that when you look at yourself in the mirror sometimes, you seem to age faster than you should.

Let me ask you a question. When was the last time you noticed that the moon shines prettily as you walked your way home? Have you even gotten off work early enough to catch the sunset flash unique colors? When was the last time you kept in touch wth yourself and treated yourself to a quiet, long walk, without your phone keeping you busy?

Again, believe me that I understand you have a lot to do. You are an achiever, you always do well (or try to), I know that. I know you always wanted to excel, not lose. But let me break something to you: A little pause won’t hurt you.

Give yourself room to breathe and unload all the titles this life placed on you, both voluntarily and involuntarily. You might be mostly a career person, but you also are just a young adult and it is completely okay to unwind and treat yourself to a massage once in a while. You might be a leader who takes good care of the organization you belong to, but you are also just a daughter who finds rest at the stroke of the hand of your mom at home. You might be someone another looks up to, yet in the eyes of our Father you are His precious child hungry for His affirmation.

To you who always find herself hurried, this is good news. You do not always have to strive as the world says. It is okay to admit you get tired and want to put to rest all the clutter in your mind because someone is always waiting for you to hear everything you wanted to say from all the titles you are carrying on everyday. What’s even greater is that this someone isn’t one who you would wait for hours to be “online” because he is ALWAYS okay to talk. This someone is available 24/7, never offline. This someone always whispers but gets dull everyday until you slow down and intentionally listen.

This someone is Jesus; and He is always waiting and excited for these unhurried moments you can give Him to assure you, “I got this.”

He knows the weight you carry and sometimes would tell you what is unnecessary to carry…if you would just listen. What He allows you to carry, He would enable you to carry. When it gets heavy, He gives you Himself because He, Himself is rest.

So to you who almost always forget to finish your coffee because the boss is calling, or who sometimes forget to eat at all because tasks are here and there — you just need a little PAUSE to connect to the one who gives you rest.

You always have someone to come home without being anyone but a precious child.

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
